Hello,

Three years ago I wrote a letter to the JNF Stamp Department in Israël. hereafter an excerpt of my letter :

"Collecting Israël stamps, I’m even interested in the Stamps of the Jewish National Fund, hoping once to find more pieces [I have one of them, from 1946 for the 25th anniversary of the Jewish agricultural cooperatives, a green one whith two tractors and legends, abaove “1921/ 1946 לאערזי קמע אפרת/ושת” and at bottom “לארשיל תמיק ןרק” (meaning Kéren Kayémeth LéIsraël), but it’s surcharged in red “UN FRANC”]. It’s only lamentable that the official catalogues never mention and quote them in their pages.
In an old monthly from 1999, I had read that there exists a catalogue of these stamps (by Jay I. Kaplove, in 1973) and a pricelist edited by your services in 1996 (maybe there are more recently catalogues or pricelists)"

I'm still waiting for an answer of them! After three years, please!

That's why I'm addressing me to this forum , to those who could perhaps help me.

I posted the same question in the french forum, especially for Cajunsr1, who proposed me doing it in the english forum, where a certain person, living in Israël, should be able to to give me more information (sorry, I've forgotten the name)

In the past, two years ago I think, I had seen many lots of these stamps in the Delcampe Aucktions, but the most of them very pricely. Maybe justified? I don't know

I join a scan of the stamp in question

Hopefull waiting, greetings
Freddy

Dear Freddy
I'm a collector from Israel.
I have the Sidney Rochlin 1988 catalogue of the JNF labels.
This KKL label was issued during 1946.
there are 7 labels different labels of this set-Rochlin 1033-1039.
I think that the UN France overprint is a private OP (no mention of this overprint in any of my JNF catalogue)
BTW there are many real postage stamps of the JNF which were overprinted "DOAR"
in Hebrew and were used from 15-22.May.1948. (Bale Israel catalogue)
Your label was also overprinted during these days.

Best wishes

Thanks, Hans, for this info

these stamps I didn't have seen before, while I founded many JNF-KKL stamps a year or two again on the site D*, selled by different auktionners.

I'm only churching yhe catalogues of these stamps, from the different periodes : prephilatellic stamps used in Palestina - the overprints DOAR during 1946-1948 - The specials from some towns blocked by the Palestinians during the first war of 1948 (rareties!) - and than the cindarella's edited since (it's Ryszard who named them so), which are sometimes copies of the préfilatellic stamps

Best wishes,

Dear Hans.
As one who was there during those days of Interim Stamps. I remember them well and have a large collection of registered letters.
I'm, a ex Pal-mach, Noter (Gush-ha-Dromi) and Machal. Holder of the "ALEH-STATE WARRIOR" order, the only decoration a IDF soldier can wear besides his war ribbons.
Be careful with the Interim Stamps, the real ones are quite rare!!!
Most stamps offered are fakes, later reprints and the cancels are not real!!!

Dear sir
Thanks for your comment.
I would like to know your name.
I know part of the history of MACHAL and Palmach. I'm almost 70 and was born in Israel.
About the covers. As you said most are Philatelic covers.
I know from first hand.
My divorcee had some relatives in Haifa (BTW they were Olim from Austria).
They went on the first day of these JNF op stamps to the post and prepared some covers. Postmark without date was applied on these stamps and covers.

Wish you excellent Health.

Dear Freddy
Something about the history of these stamps.
During the 5th Zionist congress a decision of establishing the JNF fund was carried out-1901.
Three books of no.1 label were produced: one for France, one for Austro Hungarian and one for Germany.
The fund labels are and were issued for more than 100 years.
The subjects reflects the history of the Jewish people and Israel State.
Many people are collecting these labels. And I think that one of the main reasons is that the overprinted stamps were the first official stamps of Israel. I have not searched. But it might be that Israel was the only country to officialy use overprinted labels as regular postage stamps. :applause:

Baruch

That's right, Hans,

But there were conditions of use of them.
All letters and postcarts leaving the territory of the actuel Israël (+ some extra's), posted withe these stamps, must even get palestinian official stamps.

I may be wrong, but I think that in the period of 1946-1948, when the State of Israël was prepared to be founded, the most of these stamps were overprinted with "Doar", and the earlier postal prescription weren't respected anymore (sorry, my translation machine will not start! :angryfire:, so I must write it as I think it is, thus, sorry for language errors)

afterwards, some of these stamps were allways used but they may not receive postal stampings, cause they were no more considered as "official" stamps (I have a letter with officiel stamps of Israël and a JNF label , which was not stamped in Israël, but has been stamped in Belgium with ŕ blind stamping, because in Belgium, they didn't know that this label wasn't an official stamp

in scans I give three examples of such documents (one of them has been victim of destruction)

great wishes,
Freddy

Dear Freddy
As I have written these overprinted stamps were officialy used only from 15-22.May.1948.
There are many covers that were mailed with JNF stamps.
The post office workers were not aware of this problem.
Many JNF stamps looks like the Israeli official postage stamps and have the same: New Shekel,Shekel, Mils, Lirot, Agorot printing.
BTW the cost of these labels was the same as postage stamps.
The other 2 covers are probably philatelic covers. Mailed (?) inside the towns:Haifa and Tel-Aviv.
Shabat Shalom

Hello Freddy
As promissed I went to our club and unfortunately there were no collectors of JNF
stamps present so I will tel you what I know so far....I do not collect them, to me they are Cinderellas, But they were used for posting letters during the Independence War 1948... To be genuine they should be on an envelope and the stamp itself be overprinted with the name of the town using it. They are quite rare and many forgeries are about. The last catalogue issued was in about 1991 and there are only dealers price lists available.. The JNF office is not organized to deal in stamps so do not hold your breath if waiting for information on stamps from them. The number of collectors is declining or so I understand. If and when I get more information I will pass it on.
Have a nice Day

Thanks for your informations, and even to all others for their contribution.

I'm well surprised about the overprints of the townnames on these "stamps", the french article in the monthly years ago never wrote about them

I don't consider the old JNF stamps as cinderella's, but as préphilatellic stamps of Israël. The modern vignettes, after 1950, may be considered as cinderella's or private stamps, as they exist even in all other countries.

have all a nice day,:applause::applause::applause:

Dear Richard
Many thanks for your invitation and compliments
I have some news. My daughter has moved to live in Bat Chefer.
During the summer while driving with my daughter to the Yad-Chana sweaming pool, I had a short meeting with Michael. The problem is that most of my visits to Bat Chefer are on Friday evening.
Anyhow I hope to arrange a visit in the near future.
Wish you excellent health.

Hello Genady,

I suppose that you're allways selling them in the comming months?

I recently had buy a collection of Switsetland, to pay in 6 parts, allthough, I can't buy your lots at this moment

I only have problems with payement with PayPall or Moneybrookers, cause I have none of them. I even have a collegue, président of our philatelic club who sell and buy with PayPall, it's possible that I can make arrangements with him in the future

Greetings and good Hanukka (or is it pasted?)
